First time visitor - planned to stop in for a tea and a snack. Ended up staying for almost 2 hours and enjoyed an incredible lunch. The owner, Martin, is a great host. Funny, engaging, really knows his stuff. It’s a really unique experience compared to all of the other dining options in the area. Charming Georgian Bay decor meets authentic European cafe. Just a great experience.

There were two reasons that I even ended up in Penetaguishene, Ontario. The first was that for my entire childhood, we had French-speaking neighbours from there, and they always returned and raved about it. The second reason was that we were told that we just HAD to eat at Sails Café. I was not disappointed on either count. If I had to describe the food, ambiance and host in one word, it would be FANTASTIC. When on vacation, eating commodity foods that engage a deep fryer in their culinary life becomes a deadening experience. That is the bulk of most "restaurants". Not so at Sails. The food is authentic, tasteful, delicious and artfully presented. It is a Spanish experience in a French town. The host, Martin is gracious, knowledgeable, engaging and a damn fine chef. The shop in the store sells pretty much the Spanish & Basque delicacies that are served on the table. All of the small touches are there. Host Martin was pleased that I had the Spanish charcuterie board for breakfast because that's what they did in Spain. The flan and Tarta Santiago were a party in your mouth. This is a must-go to place. I came home with a piece of Spanish goats milk, smoked Vega cheese that was a real treat. Bravo Martin !!

Everything about this place is appealing. Delicious food, great service, and a very welcoming and friendly host, Martin. If you are in Penetanguishene, or even in the general area, this is a worthwhile stop. The interior is easy to move around in, with comfortable seating and lots of natural light pouring in from the front windows. If you get a chance to sit at the counter at the back, you can enjoy Martin's humour and geniality as he sets to work preparing food and coffee. Originally from Spain, he is a gifted conversationalist and has many interesting stories to tell. He sources most of his food from Spain and there are many items for sale in addition to what is offered o the menu.

Do you love excellent coffee, tapas, foods from Spain and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Martin, the owner, made me feel at home instantly. I could come back here again and again. The decor is rustic mariner, the music Spanish, and the space feels like a hidden gem. Highly recommend!

We stopped here on the way to the lake and golf club for a quick coffee, but ended up staying for wine, snacks, and the most incredible cheesecake (seriously, don’t skip it - it’s a must!). Next time, we’re definitely coming back for a full lunch because everything looked absolutely delicious. Martin is a wonderful host. We not only enjoyed the food, but also the thoughtful décor that gives the place such a unique charm..some of the pieces on display take you back 150 years. The combination of amazing food, historical atmosphere, beautiful design (even looked adorable), and great music makes this café truly special. We were on a road trip and learned so much about the town from Martin, which we really appreciated. This spot is now on our list of must-visit places and we’ll definitely be back. I highly recommend planning your road trips around this café. It’s a gem you don’t want to miss! There are many places to see around which is great.
